Just like many who came before him, His Excellency the president of the GPSA-KNUST, Master Samuel Kofi Amoah Antwi, made it his quest to revamp and reinforce the “Jump the trail ” policy which was originally brought to life by Her Excellency Naana York, GPSA-KNUST president of the 2019/2020 academic year with the sole intention of guiding our colleagues who have trails to smoothly jump the hurdle that await them by offering academic assistance in preparation for supplementary examinations.
This year’s supplementary examination lasted two weeks from 8th November, 2023 to 21st November, 2023 with over 300 students registering for the re-sit. This huge number did not discourage the President or the Faculty’s Academic Board from putting measures in place to ensure a successful outcome. In fact, in an interview with His Excellency the president, he stated
emphatically that,
” We knew it would be difficult to materialize all that we wanted to do because of the huge number of people we were going to be handling. We wanted to make sure 95% of the people who registered and actively participated would clear all their courses and be promoted.”
The measures put in place to ensure a productive result were highly tactical and arrived at after careful deliberations among the GPSA executives and other indispensable resource persons with technical expertise on the subject based on experience. The plan was to have a well-structured online and in-person tutorial sessions. The latter was to take place over three weeks to supplement the online tutorials and tackle key concepts that wouldn’t be feasible to tackle online. Lab demonstrators and T.As were also to be invited for some of these sessions to facilitate, especially, the practical aspect.

Notable people who were highly instrumental in this agenda are H. E. the vice president, Master Eduah Jamel, Academic Board reps namely, Attiso, Ivy and Awudi, the GPSA Executives, T.A.s, demonstrators and student facilitators. It is important to acknowledge and belaud the faculty’s involvement in the whole agenda. Although it is too early to conclude, it is safe to say that based on the fact that the time, financial and human resources required for the execution of such a daunting task were put to good effect, this year’s “Jump the trail ” policy implemented under the auspices of the Antwi-Eduah led Administration will see the highest success rate in the history of all “Jump the trail ” policies.
