What’s better than students levelling up with real-world media skills? On the 12th June, 2024, the Media Committee (Pharmedia) of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (GPSA) pulled off an inspiring and hands-on capacity-building workshop, designed to arm students with the tools they need to thrive in media. With this event, the committee didn’t just stop at skill-building—it doubled down on its mission to engage, empower, and celebrate the talents and creativity within the association.

The workshop set out to do more than just skim the surface. It cracked open the operations of the Phatmedia and gave participants the chance to dive deep into practical skills like photography, videography, graphic design, public speaking, and social media management. On top of that, students gained free access to apps, resources, and other media tools—because why hold back when creativity has no limits?

This initiative hit two birds with one stone: building media-savvy members while boosting the association’s image with polished, high-quality content. It wasn’t just about theory—students got hands-on with cameras, learning framing techniques, photo editing, and flyer design using Photoshop. They also sharpened their digital communication game, mastering how to craft engaging social media posts and manage accounts to increase visibility. With live demonstrations throughout the three-hour session, participants could immediately apply what they learned and walk away with practical knowledge.

And here’s the exciting part—this wasn’t just for GPSA members! The doors were thrown wide open to anyone interested, and the buzz spread quickly, thanks to strategic announcements and eye-catching digital flyers shared in class groups and across social media. The effort paid off: a post-event poll revealed a perfect 100% satisfaction rate, with participants clamouring for the workshop to become an annual tradition.

The Media Committee didn’t stop at delivering a great event—it’s thinking long-term. The workshop aimed to inspire students to harness their newfound media skills not just for GPSA activities, but for personal projects, entrepreneurial ventures, and future careers. With unwavering support from the Antwi-Eduah-led GPSA Executive Council, the committee hopes this program will spark a culture of creativity and collaboration that lives on through future projects.

Looking ahead, the GPSA Media Committee envisions integrating these participants into ongoing media efforts, ensuring continuous growth and learning. The plan is simple: refine the workshop based on feedback, secure buy-in from future leadership, and keep providing these opportunities year after year. After all, who wouldn’t want to be part of a dynamic association where media production isn’t just an add-on, but a key part of its DNA? The future is bright, and GPSA is ready to lead the way!
