GPSA-KNUST witnessed a spirited and engaging election season, as students vied for key leadership positions in the faculty. The campaign kicked off with a flurry of “Welcome Back to School” flyers, a subtle signal to the start of the election season. Candidates for the various executive positions embarked on their campaigns with a series of promotional flyers, which highlighted their unique profiles, declarations of intent, and policy proposals.
The list of aspirants who put their hats into the ring included: 

  • Presidential Candidates: Albert Ströefer Kobina Yalley, Delali Kwablah Agbemaka, and Collins Amoah Denkyirah. 
  • General Secretary: Angela Ansere Boateng.
  • Financial Secretary: Maxwell Apam. 
  • Organization Secretary: Nana Kwaku Asubonteng. 
  • Health Officer: Sakina Sambo and Michael Agyare. 
  • International Relations Officer: Michael Yeboah Acheampong. 
  • Editor-in-Chief: Clifford Amoah Takyi. 
  • Public Relations Officer: Perez Appiah-Kubi. 

The nomination period opened on May 28th, 2024, and concluded on May 22nd, 2024. Following the nomination process, candidates began releasing a series of flyers, each outlining their unique vision for the GPSA. These flyers included, Declaration of Intent, Profile and Policy flyers.

The campaign reached its peak on May 25th, 2024, with an insightful vetting session held at the Lecture Hall 1 where candidates were given the chance to introduce themselves and their visions to the members of GPSA, ensuring that the decisions that will be made on June 5th will be done by a well-informed electorate. The excitement continued on May 31st, 2024, with a highly anticipated and unprecedented presidential debate. The debate sparked lively discussions and provided students with a clear understanding of each candidate’s vision. 

Finally, Election Day, June 5, 2024 was here. Students turned out in large numbers to cast their votes. As the votes were tallied and the results announced in the evening, the faculty celebrated the emergence of new leaders ready to steer GPSA into the next academic year. The final results were as follows: 

  • Presidential Position: Delali Kwablah Agbemaka emerged victorious with 62.12% of the votes.
  • General Secretary: Angela Ansere Boateng won by an overwhelming 94.90%. 
  • Financial Secretary: Maxwell Apam clinched the position with 94.90%. 
  • Organization Secretary: Nana Kwaku Asubonteng secured his win with 93.46%. 
  • Health Officer: Sakina Sambo narrowly won with 52.55%.
    International Relations Officer: Michael Yeboah Acheampong garnered 92.66%. 
  • Editor-in-Chief: Clifford Amoah Takyi emerged as the Editor-in-Chief with 92.82%. 
  • Public Relations Officer: Perez Appiah-Kubi won with 91.79%.

This election season was a testament to the commitment and passion of FPPS students in shaping the future of their faculty. With the successful conclusion of this vibrant election season, the newly elected leaders are set to take on their roles and continue advancing the interests of the student body.
