On June 1, 2024, the Ghana Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (GPSA) partnered with the Ghana Herbal Medicine Students’ Association (GHEMSA) and the Physician Assistantship Students’ Association of Ghana (PASAG) to host an aerobic event aimed at promoting the importance of physical exercise in health. Dubbed “Cardio Sync,” the event marked the third inter-association collaboration, following October’s “Pink Space” and December’s “9 Lessons and Spoken Word.”

Cardio Sync solidified GPSA’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with other health associations. The collaboration emphasized the importance of unity among health students, creating a foundation for better teamwork in future professional settings.

Among the attendees were two presidential candidates for the upcoming Health Science Students’ Association (HESA) elections: Samuel Tampanga Wepeah from GPSA and Anku Wonder from the Nursing and Midwifery Students’ Association (NAMSA). Their presence at the event, despite their political differences, showed the common goal of ensuring peace and progress for HESA.

The event featured a range of activities, including weightlifting, stretching, jogging, soccer, and more. The day’s events culminated in a kenkey party to celebrate the participants’ efforts in establishing a sense of camaraderie.

A notable highlight of the day was a race held at the forecourt of the new pharmacy building. This particular race drew attention because it featured the three GPSA presidential candidates: Collins Amoah Denkyira, Delali Kwablah and Albert Ströefer Kobina Yalley, just a day after their intense debate. Kwablah emerged victorious in the race, sparking light-hearted speculation among his supporters that the win could be a sign of good fortune for his upcoming electoral bid.

Supporters of Yalley and Amoah, however, dismissed the notion, attributing Kwablah’s victory to his athletic prowess rather than any political symbolism. They emphasized that the outcome of the aerobic race would not influence the election results, though some could still view it as a playful foreshadowing of the vote to come.

With just three days left before the polls, the excitement surrounding the GPSA elections has continued to build. The Cardio Sync event served as a reminder that despite the heated competition, unity and collaboration remain central to the mission of all health associations. As students eagerly await the election results, the camaraderie displayed at this event offers hope for continued teamwork, both on campus and in our future professional roles.
