Reflecting on the 65th Anniversary Week of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (GPSA)-KNUST, the event served as a fitting tribute to decades of history and legacy. Above all, it celebrated the remarkable people, cherished memories, and core experiences that shape the identity of our Association today.
The GPSA-KNUST 65th Anniversary Week kicked off on Saturday, 18th July 2026, with a grand durbar at the Allotey Auditorium, and what an opening it was! The auditorium was packed to capacity with distinguished guests, faculty, alumni, and students, all gathered to launch our Blue Sapphire Anniversary in style. The energy in the room was electric, but beyond the pomp and excitement lay a deeper sense of reflection on how far GPSA-KNUST has stood as an Association.
Through lively panel discussions, documentary screenings, and heartfelt deliberations, the Association’s story was truly brought to life. History was revisited, remarkable achievements were celebrated, and a bold vision was cast for the future. The durbar served as a bridge between past and present, offering a powerful reminder that the GPSA enjoyed today was built on the vision, sacrifice, and dedication of past generations.
With history honored and the foundation set, the week seamlessly shifted into a colorful, high-energy celebration of student life!
Monday kicked off with Faculty Code Official Day, where pharmacy students traded their usual routine for a full-blown showcase of campus identity. Taking the opportunity to represent various programs across KNUST, students creatively dressed up to embody fields beyond pharmacy. The faculty was instantly transformed into a lively display of academic diversity, sparking endless laughter, creative banter, and new interactions at every turn.
The momentum carried right into Tuesday with Rep Your School Day, shifting the focus from university life to pure nostalgia. Students proudly donned the uniforms of their former senior high schools, taking a brief trip back to the classrooms and corridors that shaped their formative years. High school rivalries were reignited in good spirit, filled with enthusiasm, unyielding school pride, and a shared appreciation for the journeys that brought everyone to pharmacy school.
As day turned into evening, the anniversary week shifted from nostalgic fun to intellectual battle. At 5:30 PM, the long-awaited debate finals kicked off, pitting Pharm D2 against Pharm D4. What followed was a spirited clash of ideas, sharp eloquence, and compelling arguments. Both teams brought their absolute best to the stage, but when the dust settled after a fiercely contested session, Pharm D4 emerged victorious.
Wednesday belonged to the sports enthusiasts with Rep Your Jersey Day. Jerseys of different teams filled the faculty, with students proudly representing their favourite sporting sides. The day brought a lively energy to the anniversary celebrations and allowed students to express their sporting identities in a colourful display of loyalty and enthusiasm.
Denim Thursday gave the classic Western wardrobe staple a distinctively African heartbeat through the unique ways students styled, accessorized, and owned the look. Rather than adopting a standard global uniform, the campus brought local flavor to the fabric by pairing rugged denim jackets, shirts, and jeans with vibrant African print accents, traditional jewelry, headwraps, and indigenous footwear. It was a creative collision of global street style and local identity, proving that fashion on campus is always filtered through a uniquely African lens.
Beneath the relaxed denim aesthetic of Thursday lay a deeply purposeful cause: student preparedness and community service. Stepping up to the task, the Health Committee led an essential First Aid Training Session to sharpen our emergency response skills. It was a timely, meaningful exercise for future healthcare professionals; a vivid reminder that pharmacy extends far beyond prescriptions and formulas to the core of human safety and care.
The excitement picked up speed later in the day with a high-stakes Treasure Hunt that added a dash of mystery to the lineup of celebrations. Clue by clue, teams put their problem-solving skills and speed to the test as they hunted for hidden treasures scattered across the area. The competitive spirit was electric, making the eventual win all the sweeter for the sharp-minded participants who cracked the final codes!
By Friday, the faculty grounds transformed into a breathtaking showcase of Ghanaian heritage for Traditional Wear Day. Corridors came alive in a symphony of rich colors, handwoven Kente, regal Fugu, and intricate Adinkra symbols embroidered across flowing garments. From royal beaded accessories to expertly wrapped headpieces, students proudly displayed the sheer diversity of regional styles, seamlessly weaving history and identity into the fabric of the anniversary celebrations.
As dusk fell, the cultural celebration smoothly transitioned into a night of pure relaxation at Royal View Cinema, SG Mall. Gathering for a dedicated Movie Night, students swapped the bustling faculty halls for cozy theater seats, popcorn, and a shared cinematic experience. After a packed week of intense activities and high-energy events, the evening provided a much-needed breather, a chance to unwind, a moment to share laughs, and a period to bond away from the usual pressures of academic life.
Saturday kicked off the final leg of the week with an adrenaline-packed sports day at the Atonsu Astroturf for the Prof. Tackie Memorial Games. The pitch was charged with electric energy as teams faced off in friendly yet fiercely competitive matches. The highlight of the day came in the football tournament, where Pharm X, the teaching assistants playfully dubbed the “old men” of the faculty, triumphed over Pharm D4 in a heated, thrilling final. It was a victory for the history books, proving that competitive drive and skills on the pitch cross every generation within the faculty.
