With the spirit of care and knowledge, the Health Committee of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (GPSA), KNUST spearheaded a vibrant two-day health outreach at St. Louis Senior High School. Through education and free medical screenings, the program aimed to sow the seeds of healthy living among students and staff while nurturing community engagement.

The event kicked off on August 16 with a compelling health talk during the school’s morning assembly, drawing the attention of over 500 students. The focus was on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), a growing health concern in Ghana. The GPSA health team painted a vivid picture of vulnerability, stressing that no one is immune and that prevention is the safest armor. Students were equipped with strategies for self-protection, underscoring the value of informed decisions and safe practices.
On August 19, the outreach shifted gears to a comprehensive health screening right on the school grounds. Students had their blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and blood groups checked, along with tests for hepatitis and syphilis. Armed with personalized health insights, participants were encouraged to take charge of their well-being and make informed lifestyle choices.
This outreach stands as a testament to GPSA-KNUST’s unwavering mission to empower the youth with knowledge and access to health services. Energized by the program’s success, the association aims to ride this wave of momentum, setting sights on future initiatives and broader community impact.
