The Electoral Commission is an established body of the Association whose modus operandi follows the dictates of the GPSA Constitution, it is among the three committees listed in the constitution over which the Executive body has no jurisdiction. The Membership of the Electoral Commission as stated in Article 7(vi) of the GPSA Constitution consists of a representative from each class of whom one shall be appointed by the Executive Council as the chairperson.
With the expanding number of students, each class is presently divided into two groups. A representative is, thus, selected from each of the two groups making a total of two representatives per class. Over the years, the Electoral Commission has remained the sole body in the Association responsible for holding General elections, referenda, open polls, bye-elections etc. by secret ballots, as well as establishing rules and regulations governing their conduct. It is also mandated to set up a screening committee for the screening of applicants for various executive positions.
