Following the presentation of prospective plans by the presidents of the various PSAs, the chairperson of the Early Career Pharmaceutical Group, Pharm. Reginald Sekyi-Brown gave an account of past events and a presentation of what ECPG plans for the Federation in 2024/2025.
In his delivery he took the assembly a step back to events such as the value-addition-geared webinar on project management training for pharmacists; an event that was organised in partnership with the Cambridge Centre for Excellence.
He also made mention of the debate on the motion, “Pharmacy education is limited and causing fears of job security” labelled CLASH OF PERSPECTIVES which had Pharm. Reginald himself is one of the debaters. It was held as part of the events leading up to the rebranding of the Young Pharmacists Group (YPG) to ECPG at the YPG-ECPG Annual General Meeting.
Finally, another noteworthy activity is the election of ECPG executives to steer the affairs of this interest group and carry on its vision and mission as well as live up to the legacies of past executives.
Following this retrospective account, the chairman gave the assembly a prospective perspective of how the ECPG executive body envisions the future. Here, Pharm Reginald reveals their “Agenda in 2 years” According to him, the Group aims to actively seek out scholarship opportunities from renowned scholarship secretariats like Schwarzman Scholars, Mandela Scholars, etc.
Also, they plan to organise orientations on unorthodox career opportunities in Pharmacy and also offer soft skills training and first aid training and certification to about 300 young pharmacists.
They also plan on organising sports and quiz competitions among all 7 PSAs as part of the events leading up to the AGM. To rule out any chance of the core goal being corrupted, he emphasised categorically that the principal focus of these competitions is strictly to foster a cordial relationship among the PSAs and not in any way to prove that one is better than the other in respect of the competition.
Another noteworthy initiative is their plan to partner with PSGH to optimize Pharm D placement. They also wish to expand the frontiers of Pharmacy by advocating for the formation of the following Associations; Nephrology, oncology, cardiology, and compounding among others. The Group seeks to climax these and other objectives with an ECPG get-together event.
