The Early Career Pharmaceutical Group (ECPG), Ghana, formerly known as the Young Pharmacists’ Group (YPG) recently held a general assembly meeting on the 22nd of December, 2023 via Google Meet. The meeting was themed, “Working together in 2024 and beyond ” and befittingly so, as the agenda of the meeting was to hear the plans each executive body of the local Pharmaceutical Students Associations (PSAs) in the country has put in place to carve a definitive action plan for the Federation at large.
The meeting was moderated by the vice chairperson, Dr. Christabel E. Aquah, chaired by Pharm. Reginald Sekyi-Brown and graced by the attendance of the presidents and representatives of the 7 PSAs and the newly inducted president of the Pharmaceutical Students Federation of Ghana (PSFGh), H.E. Samuel Kwesi Tenkorang Acheampong, who at that time had technically been in office for about 24hrs following his official induction a day prior.
Given the mandate of the general assembly meeting, H. E. Samuel Amoah Antwi, president of GPSA-KNUST, used the platform to enlighten the whole assembly on the plans that he, together with his able executives, has for the aforementioned local PSA. Among the plethora of His Excellency’s scheme of administration are the following outstanding initiatives :
1. Start Smart, an insightful event for freshers to educate them on how to find their feet in Pharmacy school.
2. Alumni-Student Connect, a mentorship scheme to connect students to alumni and relevant stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector.
3. A career conference to be held during the faculty week celebration.
4. A series of skill fairs to be majorly taken up by the committees under GPSA-KNUST.
5. A financial literacy and entrepreneurship seminar.
6. Patient counselling challenge and the Compounding competition events.
7. A welfare program labelled the GPSA Silo to help members of low financial standing.
It is evident that a great deal of thought, attention to the interest of GPSA-KNUST members and good motives were a recipe for the birth of these remarkably promising ideas and speak to the unwavering zealous desire of the president and his executives to serve the interest of GPSA in every aspect of student well-being. It is indeed a very great and propitious time to be a member of this noble association.
